4 Signs Your Transmission May Be Failing

Car repairs can get expensive, especially when you are facing with purchasing a major engine component. A vehicle’s transmission is one of the most important elements of propelling movement, and whether you are replacing heavy duty transmissions or compact car transmissions, you can be looking at a pretty penny. There are generally some warning signs that will alert you to a potential problem with your transmission, and ignoring these signs could leave you with more damage than was necessary. Here are four things that should cause you to stop and take notice. It might mean your transmission is about to go out.

1. Shifting Gets Rough

This is one of the easiest symptoms to notice. You may feel the car resist shifting into other gears, or it may not shift at all. It may be possible to force it to move, but you should make an appointment with your mechanic.

2. Transmission Starts Slipping

You may be driving down the road and feel your vehicle drop into another gear. If this happens often, your transmission is slipping into different gears and is on the road to failure. It also poses a danger while driving.

3. Transmission Fluid Leaks

When you see a wet, shiny spot under the car or left behind on the driveway after you’ve left it in park, this is probably transmission fluid. This is one fluid that should never lead. Though it may not seem like a crisis now, failing to have the leaked sealed and repaired could cause your fluid levels to drop so low that your engine locks up and total failure occurs.

4. Delayed Shifting

If your vehicle doesn’t shift immediately when moving between gears, you are noticing another sign of potential failure. Shifting delay means it’s time to see a mechanic.

Addressing these problems before they balloon into bigger problems can save you a lot of money. Head for the auto shop when you start to notice one of these signs.
